SUPER Post-Bday THANK YOU

Last August 25, 2011...
I turned twenty-three.
Or as I looked at it, it's the 5th anniversary of my 18th birthday. :)

I AM VERY HAPPY AND VERY THANKFUL TO BE SURROUNDED BY SOME OF THE WORLD'S MOST WONDERFUL PEOPLE.

12 midnight of the 25th of August this year, these people surprised me! Super Effort. Thus, SUPER THANK YOU! I super love the candle sticks. Sorry guys, I can't put my just-woke-up-with-your-surprise picture.. it's not so damn good. lol.

I received a little harana from these people.
I also received a Bible (thank you Tita Lorrie), bookmarks (thank you Tita Melba), a card, messages and lots of LOVE.

Whenever I use these precious bookmarks, I have this feeling that these hands are calling me to save them from drowning in the books! Funny scary. It encourages me to read the books though.

These are full of messages. And it has lights. Blinking lights!
After this midnight surprise, everybody went to bed...
And when I woke up around 6am, I found these...

Elmo greeted me!

Isn't my room mates the sweetest?

I also received posts and blogs from a dear friend from Davao.

And a lot of calls, text messages and facebook posts. :)
Special Thank you to my super-cute siblings and My Mama.
SUPER Special Thank you to Papa God for all the blessings.

Yes, I may be away from HOME-HOME but I am glad to be at home at NCPC Dorm. Life would be very much different without you guys!

Again and again and again... I love the candle sticks!!!

I want candles like these every time I celebrate LIFE. And Oh! I wish I had that kind of cake with all the candles on it. But really, it's just the candles that I want. :D

Again and again and again...
Thank you so much guys for making August 25,2011 extra special!

Howl's Moving Castle

It's a Wednesday and I do not have classes. But that does not mean that I do not have a pile of things to do. Gosh, I still have this bed-weather mood (after yesterday's Bagyong Pedring) even though the sun is up above today. And so I decided to watch a movie before starting my laboratory reports due Monday.

My friend, Poch, gave me this movie. I do not have the slightest idea what is this all about. Since I believe that in times like these, I need to follow my heart (naks!). And so, my heart tells me to watch this movie among others.

And yes, it is worth my time. I felt like the movie was light... Though my mind is battling that it is heavy. I dunno. Maybe its because the movie didn't fail to balance the "heavy" scenes with the lights ones. There is balance.

The movie was presented in such a way that even children would understand. Also, the influence and the lessons that can one can get from this movie are priceless.

It talks about a lot of things.
Friendship.
Family.
Loyalty.
Responsibility.

and

Love.

Oh. There's the magic word again.
Here's one of my favorite quotable quotes from the movie:

Howl: Why? I'm done running away.
Finally, Ive found something worth protecting with my life.
It's you.

My most favorite part/thing in the movie:
The FRONT DOOR.

Intriguing? Hell yeah!
It is so interesting that it depicts a lot of things.
There was a moment that I wanted to have that FRONT DOOR for myself. Wanna know what's behind and what is in that front door? See it yourself! ;)

After watching, I had this interest of searching the web for things about the movie and found out that this movie is based from the novel, Howl's Moving Castle, written by a Brit author Dianna Wynne Jones. Hayao Miyazaki adapted and was able to produce an Academy Award-nominated film of the same title.

Hayao Miyazaki is also behind the movie Spirited Away, which I found to be really amazing. And so I have said to myself that Miyazaki guy has the thing for witches, wizards, and ghost-like characters. I like the idea of presenting something in a form that not just adults will have an interest in it. It is also important that the young minds will have the chance of watching these kind of films. And so, what are these children interested in? Of course, Anime.

And so I decided that I will watch the other movies directed by Hayao Miyazak. In the first place, I do have a copy of his movies. I just didn't know it until today.

Thank you Poch for sharing such good movies!

THE TOY INVENTOR

Last Night, I had the chance to watch one of TED TALKS videos.
My hand had this instinct and selected a video by ARVIND GUPTA.
He is Indian.
He is a toy inventor.
He is an engineer.
He knows how to convert simple things to what i call "happy toys".

For me, he is not just a toy inventor, an engineer, and a person who makes "happy toys"... Arvind Gupta is an inspiration. He opened my eyes and allowed me to appreciate simple things. He taught me to adore the engineers and  those people who truly love their work and later flourishes and produce GREAT THINGS.

His toys will remind us of our childhood.
His toys will take us back to the past and reminisce how one child can produce "happy toys" out of newspapers, straws, rubber bands, etc.
His toys wanted to tell us how one can be creative.
His toys will tell us that you don't need to buy new things to produce something special.
His toys will tell us that even without a dime, one can be happy and one can share that happiness. All it takes is a little imagination.

His toys reminds me of how I play with sticks before and how can I produce sounds from straws and metal beer caps (tansan). Nostalgic.

Let us meet him.
He's lolo looking.
But he has and will continue to touch lives.

Please have the time to watch him at TED.
This won't take long.
It's all worth it.

Arvind Gupta showed me that one can still find real HAPPINESS even in simple things.

Ponder.
Learn to appreciate simple things.
And be amazed.

JUST FOR MAMA

September 22, 2011.
My Dear Mama's Birthday.
Yes, me and my brother Aaron are away from home.
And so we decided to prepare something for Mama, way from Luzon to Southern Mindanao. She deserves all the happiness in the world.

Two weeks before her birthday, Aaron bought a bag (a very pricey one!) for Mama. He sent it home through our cousin and instructed our little siblings to keep the present until the day of Mama's birthday. Unfortunately, 5 days before her birthday, the kids back home were tempted to give the gift! (argh. KIDS!!! haha). And so Mama called me and told me everything about the bag. She said it was beautiful. Oh! How sweet of her. (P.S. I did not have the chance to see "the bag" for when I arrived at SM, it was already wrapped). I'll have a look at it when I get back home on Oct. 18. (Oh yeah, it's official. I have my tickets na).

So, yesterday... As a little celebration here at the dorm, I bought a cake. Took a picture of it. And I realized that I bought the same cake last year.

Thank you so much Mer Nel'S cake.
Bongga. You added more candy flowers this year! :D
I had your cake for 2 years in a row! Why not? It's A LOOOT better than Red Ribbon and Goldilocks. Plus, it's cheaper. ;)

Oh, the captions were so small. The one on the left was last year and the one on the right was bought September 22, 2011.

I (We) am just so happy and so lucky to have such an understanding, supportive and super loving mama. I LOVE YOU! xoxo. See you soooonest!

MWMFSOAT

MWMFSOAT...
My World's Most Favorite Seriess Of All Time.
(oh yeah, two S's for SERIESS because I have two faves)
(and yeah, i just make this one up.. the abbreviation thing)

The first one would be the GILMORE GIRLS. These girls never fail to amuse me. And oh, I think Emily Gilmore should be on the poster too. Besides, she's also a Gilmore. What do you think? ;)

I also like the the tag line: LIFE'S SHORT. TALK FAST.
And both of them REALLY talk fast. as in. really.
This series is really GOOD.
It talks about life. Family ties. Dealing with teenage problems. Parenthood. How to become a cool mom. How to become a not-so-cool-mom. How to be a bad ass. How to be a good ass. Books. Good Movies. Friendship. Dreams. Goals. Sudden change of goals and dreams. And they live in a coool town.. where town meetings exist.. where everybody participates in festivities. I wanna live in a community like Stars Hallow!

Lorelai: Tell me a joke.
Rory: Knock knock.
Lorelai: [giggles] That was a good one.

----
Lorelai: Rory never even shoplifted. Not a candy bar, not a lipstick. She forgot to return a library book once. And she was so guilty about it that she grounded herself. I mean, can you imagine? She's just sitting there in her bedroom yelling at me, "Now no one else got to read the Iliad this week because of me!"

----

Rory: What's with the carrots?
Lorelai: I was afraid you weren't eating well at school.
Rory: Ohhh.
Lorelai: Marshmallow?

----

Rory: So you mean someone broke into our house, went past our TV, our stereo and our jewelry, then headed straight for the booster club cashbox, took $18 and left the rest?
Lorelai: Some burglars aren't as greedy as others.

I do actually learn A LOT from Lorelai and Rory.
I sometimes wish I had that same closeness and my-best-friend-is-my-mom thing... Though I love my mama very much.

And Yes! I like F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
Who wouldn't?
And oh, I like the tv-show-FRIENDS and the people-friends.

When I'm a little down and I wanted to refresh my mind, I just watch this tv series. My laughing is like endless when I'm into even one episode of this.

I like Phoebe. But I think my friends would see me as Ross kind of girl or Monica kind of person.. But definitely not like Rachel. :D

I have the complete downloaded copies of both of MWMFSOAT.
I have the 7 seasons of GG (not Gossip Girl) and 10 seasons of FRIENDS. If you want a copy, just tell me.

*Thank you, dear friends Poch and Twet, for introducing me to these guys.

e-Disneyland Experience

It's a Friday and I don't have classes today. And so I decided to read some blogs. For today, I headed to Spell Saab. She has a new blog regarding their family trip to Singapore. I love family trips. It recharges me. But Saab's family trip will not be the subject of this blog entry. :D

This will be about my soooon-to-be family trip. I came across Saab's trip to HK Disneyland. And I saw this video..

http://vimeo.com/23074792 (I was inspired by this)

It was my dream to go to Disneyland. Yes. I will. Someday. Hopefully next year with my entire family. Hopefully. I am so excited for this. Thus, I need to save for this plan to actually happen. Diba? But for now, I  think our countless Enchanted Kingdom and Manila Ocean Park adventures would do. Photos were taken last February 2011.

From left to right: Mama, Jeca, Chubby, King, Tita Mary Ann.
Oh! The King and I.
Look at you Boojeck. lol
King, ikaw na!

Hopefully, I would be able to say Hello Disneyland by next year! Whoah. What a great plan. What a great inspiration to save up. ;D

See you next year guys!

My dream (for myself and my entire family) to wonderland will be realized soon. I know. How? I don't know, I just know it. ;D

Food, Inc.

Last night, I had this free time and was able to watch this 2008 documentary called FOOD, Inc. It is all about the evolution of how raw materials were  produced from backyard industry to a highly mechanized system now a days... and some of the many consequences of these technological "progress" to the environment, economy, nature and to our own health.

The world population is increasing year after  year. This therefore post an increase in demand for food. Thus, different food companies are doing ways in order to meet this demand... in the first place, demand = profit. That is what businesses are for, profit. Isn't it?

I am a Food Technologist. Food technologists are generally trained to conduct researches for the development of a product and to ensure the quality and safety of foods that will be distributed for consumption by the public. When we go to a supermarket, there is a wide array of foods that we can choose. There are a lot of instant foods, ready-to-eat and just-add-water kind of foods. As a food technologist, I can say that we are part of the team that developed this product. Having to say this, I do not know if I should be proud or should I be ashamed. Yes, indeed. I have these some kind of guilt inside me. After watching the documentary, though I know I haven't produced or develop a product that was already in the market, still something is bothering me.

Why?

Because whenever I hear people talking about being sick due to unhealthy diet, part of the blame is on the producer's side. I know that each and everyone of us should learn how to control and be able to choose the foods that we should be taking in, but food companies are actually giving these people the idea and providing them with junk foods. Yes, I call them junk because they do no good in a person's health.

In the documentary, they presented that there is a sudden rise in the consumption of corn in US due to its potential of being converted to high value products like high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). There is mass production. And what do we learn from our economics class? The greater the production, the lesser will be the cost of the product. Thus, people are into these processed foods because they are actually A LOT cheaper than organic fruits and veggies. However, if we take a deep look at it.. yes, we may have lower the cost of the product but we fail to take into account the HEALTH COST, ENVIRONMENTAL COST, etc. Let us also take into account the development of more resistant microorganisms due to the constant use of antibiotics to increase yield.

There are actually lot of things that happen between that hamburger you are eating now and how it is actually produced.

So, what can I do? What can we do?

We should remember that being consumers, we are important. We are the ones that make this big companies become multi-million rich companies. We have this right of demanding for a healthier  and safe foods and proper labeling of the product. These business people would give what their consumers are asking.. because if not, what happens to their billion/million dollor worth of campanies? See, consumers should be controlling what the food industry is producing. We can and We SHOULD. Buy only from those companies that are concerned with the welfare not just of their consumers but also of their production workers.

As a food technologist, I say to myself that I will only work for companies that are consumer and environmentally friendly and those that are pro-workers. Also, I will only develop products which  I see healthy not just for people but also to the environment.

And oh yeah, after this documentary YOU'LL NEVER LOOK AT DINNER THE SAME WAY AGAIN.

Grade C Traveller

How much of the Philippines have you visited?

Well, I found this site from a friend's blog:
http://forge.codedgraphic.com/lakbayan/

It's called the LAKBAYAN. It gives you the opportunity of actually seeing (on an e-map) as to where and what parts of Pinas have you visited. Therefore, the more places have you been, the more colored you "travel map" becomes. :D

I like the idea of this color-the-place-that-you-have-been. We had our own version of this one back in the first quarter of the year. I and my friend attended a travel expo in MOA. Of course, freebies are all over including MAPS and so we decided to shade the places on which we have set foot. And now, I can see the electronic version of my own travel map. Cool and exciting.

Here it is. Thank you to LAKBAYAN.

Well, as for me... I think mine was ok. Not so much shade. For now. I really started my travel adventures back in college. Not so bad. I think. But for 23 years of my life, I realized... these were all the places I have been. I do not know I this will sadden me or should inspire me. Well, as I believe.. it will all depend on the person.

Thus, I choose to be inspired by this. YES. I SHOULD BE. :D
Therefore, TRAVEL MORE. Life is at its best during travels. I do not know why, but it is. Also, it would be at its BEST BEST if we are being accompanied by wonderful people whom we can share the moment with.

Thus, I have this pact: Travel whenever you have the opportunity. It would be fun if you can influence your best-est friends and family to join you in your misadventures. A lot of things happen during a travel. Lots of jinx. Full of  surprises. Many colorful traditions. Different people but still people. Many realizations... but most of all, a lot of happy memories to fuel us on our everyday journey of life.

As for me, well well well.. I will scout for lowest airfares and promos for my next travel adventure with awesome people. :D

The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner

Svetat e golyam i spasenie debne otvsyakade or The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner was the first Bulgarian movie I have watched.

Indeed, the title was quite lengthy. Oops, IT IS lengthy. Before I watched the movie, I thought that it would take me forever to memorize the English title. But after the movie, one will realize the truthfulness of the title.

The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner. Indeed. I think every body knows about this fact in our lives but seldom actually utilizes it for one's betterment. Only a few people have the courage or the common sense of looking into the simple things in life. Only a few realizes that everything/anything that they have been looking for is just around the corner. This movie told me to appreciate simple things. Ponder. Wonder around. Enjoy Life.

Problems exist. Sometimes, it won't even leave our minds. Conflicts occur due to misunderstandings. Most of the time, we feel that life is a mess... But all of these can be handled well if a person has a little bit of a sense of optimism and good perspective of life. It all boils down on how we see ourselves, how we see other people, how we see a situation, HOW WE SEE THE WORLD and HOW WE SEE LIFE.

The happiest people I know are not those that live a materialistic-luxurious life. Happy people are those whom I see contented... those who are surrounded by wonderful people like family and friends... those that have grown old with the one they love... those that saw the beauty of life even in a game of backgammon.

After the movie, i realized that LIFE IS FAIRLY SIMPLE.
we don't need to complicate it.
WE LIVE. WE INFLUENCE. WE DIE.
It depends upon us on how we choose to live. It's our call.

I just hope that I had and will touch lives during my life-time. :D

Cinema Paradiso

This was the latest movie I watched. I came across this because my professor said that this was his all-time favorite. Knowing he himself is an avid fan of movies, I gave it a try... and IT WAS WORTH IT.

During the whole course of the movie, I never thought that this was first released back in 1988.. ON THE YEAR I WAS BORN. Time allowed me to watch this beautiful film after 22 years and 364 days of me being alive in this world. But still, I am thankful to have the chance of watching it.

Why do I love it? Simple, it has meaning... It has sense... It is deep.

This movie told me to dream... to do something to achieve these dream. Dreams that are simple. Dreams that are enormous. Whatever it is, believe.  PERSIST UNTIL YOU SUCCEED.

I also love the fact that family are not just the one whom we are blood-related. Family inspires us. Sometimes, family pushes us away. Yes! because a family knows and believes that we are meant for greater things.. sometimes, we need others to believe in us first before we learn to believe in ourselves.

Alfredo: Get out of here! Go back to Rome. You're young and the world is yours. I'm old. I don't want to hear you talk anymore. I want to hear others talking about you. Don't come back. Don't think about us. Don't look back. Don't write. Don't give in to nostalgia. Forget us all. If you do and you come back, don't come see me. I won't let you in my house. Understand?
Salvatore: Thank you. For everything you've done for me.
Alfredo: Whatever you end up doing, love it. The way you loved the projection booth when you were a little squirt.

WHATEVER YOU END UP DOING, LOVE IT.

the inspiration for a movie blog

First of all, i wanted to thank my dear sis/friend/dude FLOWER for the idea of having a blog regarding the movies that i have watched.. Yes, I am fond of movies.. and i realized, i loved them. Hail to all those great movie makers of the world.

Starting today, whenever time would allow me.. I would post my own opinions/critic/review of the movies i have watch. Also, I can recommend some of which I think is worth watching a zillion times.

However, i am not just a movie lover but is also an avid traveler. I am also a "quite good" scout for promos and freebies in which ever field of life. I also looove books and good food. Thus, everything good this life has offered me, i am willing to share it to you. Plus maybe the bitter ones once in a while. ;)

SERVE.INFLUENCE. SHARE HAPPINESS TO THE WORLD.
